Hello there,
Apologise for lack of poster (coming soon) jsut a wee note for those who are interested. I and Tim Courtney are Exhibiting jointly at the Belmont Picture House in Aberdeen. The works on show are a collection of present and past work. Please feel free to take a peak if you are around. Poppy Asher Bloom is a handmade Silk Screen single cut maze book. The story is about a girl called Poppy Asher Bloom who lives on Honeydew island.

The book looks at Agreeableness at its most extreme and what happens when this cycle is broken.

This book is currently in Duncan of Jordanstone art college in Dundee 2010 Degree-show.

This booklet was made for a brief given to our class at the start of 4th year. It was to create a modern German fairy tale....i didn't do so well with this brief with finding the modern part so instead created just a fairy tale about a boy who wishes on his eyelashes to the point of no return. In this book i was attempting to look at the weight problems can pose on us daily and the effects this can have.

Business card idea that wasn't used.

the waltzers on Honeydew island a pencil drawing that

was going to become a silk screen-print.

The image below was submitted for a zine then

wasn't used. Its called ONE TON!

The Image below is one of an edition of Silk screen-printed Birds i created. Its called Heart bird, The drawing was taken from a dead bird and then silk screen printed with three different colours. I chose this method because i wanted to put a certain amount of life back into the bird again. This image is currently in my portfolio for the Dundee Degree-show. A new Edition of this bird has been created (image coming shortly) and can be bought for £20 from the Illustration Shop with the 3rd years kindly put together for us and did a brilliant job of. Thank-you to everyone who helped out!

Something bad happened in my life recently. So as usual i drew a picture to try and vent it. I don't usually show the pictures i draw when feeling upset but i quite liked this one.

This picture is about someone close to me who has lost there way for now and is finding it hard to know that people around them care about them.

For the work in Progress Exhibition at Duncan of Jordanstone school of art in the Matthew Gallery i and my fellow classmates have each made work to exhibit. Our works are based on our personal projects we have been following this semester.

I have chosen to work on an children's picture book.

The title of my book is called 'Florien.'

The story is about a tightrope walker juggler who

is scared of heights and cant really juggle very well.

Below i have posted up some images from my book. Mediums used are all water colours and photoshop for the text and integration of the sky's in the backgrounds.

Children's School Desk, artists book.

I found this little children's school desk at the recycle centre in Dundee. Its just exactly the same as the one my dad found for me when i was a little girl. I would spend hours drawing at it, so i thought i might use it as part of my project for my 4th year self initiated project. I am currently working on an artists book looking at the the concepts of:

why some people move around a lot and some don't?

I just popped into the DCA on the 10th of Oct. a good while ago now, to see what was going on and what it was all about. It was the Quentin Blake Drawing day at the DCA in Dundee. I ended up becoming entranced with some lovely jazz, dub,1920's stuff and other lovely French hip hop delights being provided by some Dj's on the decks.

I drew on some paper then this vinyl. It was great fun! Lots of kids and adults got involved which was lovely to see.

The Philippines!

Sorry ive not put up anything in a while, I've been a bit busy with my dissertation and also being away on holiday. Some pictures of my adventures.

A dog that i met in cavete. It was a really hot day and near the end of the trip.

Topher and his Calamancie Juice, its a really nice citrus drink.

A man hard at work flagging people down to get on the bus.

Relaxing until the next fare in his side car.

A Jeepnie! Famous in the Philippines! this one is in manila. It costs around 7 peso's for a trip to where ever your stop is. Thats around 7 pence more or less in £'s.

These are some images from the Green belt in the Japanese gardens in Central Manila in the Business district of Makati. It was really beautiful there.

Food!....it was sooo yummy. This wasn't my plate, but i had to take a picture. Chicken and Pork Adobo was my favourite with sticky rice.

Where the Wild things are.

A while ago now i was made aware that 'where the wild things are' illustrated and written by Maurice Sendak is being made into a film. Im so excited about seeing it finished and worried about this also. The trailer looks lovely but I'm worried that it may loose some of essence of the book that so many people like my self love. I'm hoping that it is a success and that the film is as lovely as the trailer suggest.

This was the cover of the new Entrails Zeine issue 3 , released in the 1st of may 2009. Made in Aberdeen.

I bumped into my freind Al recently who told me all about his new Zeine project that he is currently working on and we got chatting at a scabby Aberdonian bus stop. I asked him if i could maybe put work in and Al agreed he would take a look at this blog. To my absolute delight i saw my Illustration appear along side many other talented and inspiring individuals works. My illustration sat on page 13 along side the Very Talented Lizzy Stewart - www.abouttoday.co.uk one of my favourite illustrators so im feeling rather happy at the minute with that.

Some tickets I have lost and some i had to give to the machine of doom at the end of the journey. This book is a flip book so that it is easy to read the dates. Detachable for the Binding so that there is still and identity to the ticket, it is still valid in some way.

I love badges :D!

I made some badges and a pocket for them, they are just tester pockets but i quite liked them. I've used them as part of my artists book project. It's still a work in progress at the moment, but I've been enjoying making a wee book based around an idea/theme.

Lovely Aberdeen winter/spring evening....it was a bit cold. But off i went to sit in on a katerwaul recording.

while siting very still as not to make to much noise. I just doodled away and drew this while listening to Tim and Nick go through a song a few times.

It was a fun night listening to them do their thing, I enjoyed it very much, thank you for the many times they have let me sit in on them, its helped me many a time do do some good fun doodling.

Bramble the badger

we just recently were asked to do our own self initiated projects for 3rd year, i chose to do a children's book about a little badger called Bamble. The story is very simple as i am not much of a one for writing things,but i did really enjoy getting stuck into some drawing. My book is now part of an exhibition entitled 'method' along with the rest of 3rd year.

i also contributed some drawings for making the poster advertising our exhibition. hopefully i will get a chance to put this up on my blog at some point soon also.

for now, im glad to be getting on with a new project.

A wee christmas present that i did for my best friend Kimberly. This was done aggges ago!

A roughly drawn out typography mess of a frog type thing. Not my best work, but still its all practice.

This photo is a little on the blurry side but i think you get the jist. its a little doodle i did for someone of a kazoo trumpet.

I was a bit bad and drew all over my old flat walls a while ago, they were covered in that yucky pink hand paintings before we moved in so i decided to add a little to them. they are a bit rubbish but i think that it has encouraged other peoples doodles since. My flatmate at the time Carole added the text to some of them.

oops,i was meant to put this up ages ago! David Galletly came into the Art School and gave us a Talk about his work then set us a day brief. We were asked to draw a metaphor for something we felt like,but sort of sub verse it a bit as well. of either a our 5 favourite and least smells,sounds or feelings.

I chose to do my feelings, there a lot easier to draw i think.

Piano Mountain

We were given two words randomly out of a hat to research, a place: Mountain, and an object: Piano. I went away and research both of these words and developed them into this. The idea of the brief was to create a poster convey both words as one image and text using no more than 2 to 3 colours.

I was very inspired a lot by posters i had seen previously by Jason Munn who designs posters using screen printing along with other mediums,he has designed posters for people such as Josh Ritter (who's poster inspired me to create this piece), Bonnie 'Prince' Billy, Death cab for cutie, Camera Obscura, explosions in the sky, Norah Jones, The shins and many more. I love his prints because of the use of simple colours, lines and clever plays on word and image.

old camera pictures

All these photos (apart from the one of the camera) were taken using my ilford sports camera its an old camera that belonged to my grand parents and still works! Im just amazed i could even get a picture from it. These are the best of the bunch of pictures go....quite blurry. I think i need to try and get used to using the aperture and shutter speeds in the different types of light. it did originally come with a light monitor but this was unfortunately lost.

This picture was taken when i went to the wickerman festival last year, defiantly one of my highlights of the year.

This was taken last year at some point, i quite like aberdeen at dusk it has nice silhouettes.It has been nice to be able to come up and down to aberdeen this last year to see people and have fun.

This one was drawn in my old flat in dundee, after making some pasta.I got into trouble for this one.

Any window with Condensation on it is like a magnet to me,I just love drawing on them, as a kid i always got told off for doing it,I realy should have learned by now but nope.

This is an idea i had for a Character for a little book I am Making in class at the moment about A donkey in a boat and his emotional journey of learning about how to be grateful for what he has.I wanted the donkey man to look like he was bursting through his little kiosk with greed.

This is part of the website,Its an image of my House in Aberdeen. On the website The windows were buttons to other links. They were part of the Non-Linear narrative about community.

This is a map of a Coffee shop called Kilau in Aberdeen from part of my non-linear Community website,It was just one image that went into the flash based site that i work on with an Animation Student for Duncan of Jordanstone (Paul Boyd). For my awnser to the brief i looked at what my Community consisted of and i found that i meet alot of my friends in this place.

This was original a simple Pencil Line drawing then taken into photoshop and coloured.

It was created around febuary 2008.

Hi there, This is my 1st ever ever blog entry, My name is Rae Duncan a Baby illustrator at the moment really, Im just starting out at this so we shall see where it goes.Im dyslexic so i apolgise in advance for any grammar or spelling mistakes. But my lovely mac picks up alot of my mistakes so im hoping this will be fairly readable.

Ok so a bit about me, I am currently studying in my 3rd year of illustration at Duncan Of Jordanstone College of Art in Dundee Scotland, Im originally from the Granite city of Aberdeen...radiation a plenty oh yes.

With this blog im hoping to get some feedback on my work so that i may further my practic, Let people know what im doing,who may potentially be commissions and just anyone who happens to like my work or knows me in general.

anyways im off to do some work and will have something for you to peek at soon enough.
